Life with bowel cancer

pingu14

Oh what a week!

Sorry I’ve not posted on here but I’ve been lurking in the background!

Tuesday 7th May I had my trans anal resection of tumour and what was meant to be an over night stay has ended up in a week long stay! I went home briefly on the Wednesday but was readmitted due to high temperatures and unbearable pain! I’ve spent the past week in absolute agony, crying most days wondering if there will ever be the end! I feel guilty complaining as there are so many of you lovely people who have been through and going through more than I have been!
How ever I’ve received the news from my consultant that they have took away all the cancer and I’m now cancer free! I’m so relieved!

Thank you for all your previous lovely messages of support! :x::x::x::x:

Hi @pingu14
I'm so sorry that things haven't gone smoothly. ...are you still in hospital? I really hope you get the pain under control very soon.....it's hard to feel positive when you are in pain.

But, as you say, it's gone!!!

Hi @Lizalou I’m still in hospital! Pain is getting better but I’m so constipated I can’t wee so need to wait for motions to get going before they send me home!

Sorry you've not had a smooth recovery so far @pingu14

I hope things sort themselves out while you're in hospital to enable your recovery at home to progress well. It can be hard to see a way forward when you feel so rubbish right now. It will happen and hopefully you'll begin to see little improvements day by day! Try to keep a diary and you'll see progress I'm sure.

Sending lots of love and gentle hugs

@pingu14 Ah well, it must feel like one step forwards and one step backwards! And pain is not funny and I do so hope that it is all settling down, as it eventually will. Thank goodness you are in the best place (hospital!!)
Thinking of you

Hello @pingu14, gosh you have had a bit of a rough ride but you are definitely in the right place and will gradually improve. Don’t be afraid to ask for stronger painkillers if the pain is not being controlled. Please stay in touch and let us know how you get on, Kim :x::x:

Hi @pingu14 am hoping you've had some relief today. My wife has had ups and downs with pain too, so I can appreciate how hard it is. I'd echo Kim's comments above - don't be a hero, speak up and ask for stronger pain meds. It can take time but you'll get there. It sounds like the op was successful though so many congratulations for that! Best wishes

Thank you all for your replies @azro3 @Lirio345 @Baxter2 @Hans
I’m feeling much better and hoping to head home today! I’m currently unable to pass urine so maybe heading home with a catheter :( fingers crossed I start to wee soon! :x::x::x:

Dear @pingu14. I'm glad that you are feeling better and really hope you get home. The urinary retention will pass in time. Lots of love and gentle hugs, Gypsyxxx

How long do you think it will take for me to have a bowel movement? I’m on laxido and lactulose but it’s been almost ten days since I had a proper bowel movement

jj

@pingu, good news about being cancer free but sorry to hear about your prolonged stay in the hospital. Hopefully you will release all the build up soon. Pain meds also cause constipation, not forgetting the surgery. Speak to your consultant about this. Or the colorectal specialist nurse.

Hi @pingu14

Hope you are getting on ok. Are you managing to eat all right?
Sending healing thoughts.......that your insides start behaving very soon. :x::x:

Hey guys!
I’ve finally been discharged from hospital Friday!
Saturday was a rough day, the bowels started working and it was a pain I’ve never felt before, but I’ve persevered and today has been better! Thank you all for your kind words! 💕💕💕

Glad that you've made it home @pingu14 sounds like things are moving in the right direction (if you pardon the pun). Congratulations on the op. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
