Diagnosed aged 37 whilst on maternity leave and only 6 months after my amazing Mum died of bowel cancer.

Heavy bleeding from bum, but fobbed off by GP numerous times saying I had piles , which is common in pregnancy.

I suspected that there was something more sinister and begged for a colonoscopy. I was right, they found a 8cm tumour, 5cm from the anal verge. I had a CT and MRI the next day. Results showed no spread.

April 2021 - ultra low resection with a ileostomy.

Histology results showed no spread to lymphs and tumour actually only 1.5cm - apparently there was shadowing on the scans that made it appear bigger. Final staging T1 M0 NO. No more treatment but regular scans and monitoring.

June 2021- diagnosed with Lynch, not exactly a shock given my family history.

November 2021 - ileostomy reversal
