Recently diagnosed with Stage 2 Rectal cancer. Had APR surgery July 23, 2021, with end stoma. Still can’t sit down, so you can find me lying on my side surrounded by cushions like a Victorian lady, or standing up like a statue. Scared until I know if cancer is in lymph nodes. Waiting.
UPDATE August, 2021: no cancer evident in lymph nodes, so no follow-up chemo or radiotherapy required. Burst into tears on hearing the news, followed by depression at my lack of mobility three weeks out, and grief over stoma and permanent changes to my body. I have read enough stories on here to see that it is now a matter of playing a long game: will take all the excellent advice about exercise, meditation, therapies and mental health support etc. Thank you for this forum.
