Just Diagnosed

Artizanne

Just starting out on this journey.

Hello everyone. My diagnosis was confirmed just this afternoon.

Since a routine blood test in January showed I was very anaemic I've been undergoing the usual investigations. As I'm Coeliac, I was hoping it might have been because I wasn't absorbing iron from my diet. First line of action was a CT Colonograph which showed 3cm "thickening" in caecum. This resulted in me being referred for a Colonoscopy to have closer look and take biopsy. This failed despite two attempts because my sigmoid colon was looped & fixed due to adhesions from previous hysterectomy. A second CT Colonograph yesterday confirmed findings of the first scan.

At DMT meeting, the consensus was that the lesion was suspicious and needed to be removed.

I spoke to the Consultant last week. He said he wanted to do a second Colonograph and if the findings corresponded to the findings of the first, he would to do a laparascopic right hemicolectomy. I had the second CT scan yesterday.

This afternoon I received a call from Singleton Hospital to attend for a pre-surgical consultation on Monday 12th. I also received a phone call from the Consultant's Secretary asking me to attend for a meeting with the Consultant next Thursday 15th.

He mentioned previously that I'd need an MRI scan as well but I've heard nothing about that yet. I hope I'll be given more information next Thursday.

In the meantime, I'm very grateful I found this forum. I've learned so much already. Thank you all.

Wow @Artizanne you've certainly been busy! Not surprised you are knackered this evening 😁
It sounds as if everything is very well organised which is great although I'm sorry it is necessary - this isn’t a club any of us want to join.
Rest and relax this weekend, do something lovely and recover from this week, it must have been tough for you. Do you have a break from appointments next week? I hope so!
Take care, Jane :x::x::x:

Hi everyone! Hope you and all your loved ones have had a good week. I especially hope that as far as possible, it's been uneventful and relatively stress-free. I was fortunate to have only one hospital visit this week . . . for a chest CT on Thursday. Otherwise it was "normal service" as I've been able to carry on with my normal routine. I've still not received a revised date for surgery . . . perhaps I'll hear something this week. It would be good to know the date so that I can begin to plan around it.
@Katie; I'm thinking of you and John. Not long now. I wish you a blessed weekend. I hope it's going to be restful and especially stress-free. :x:
@jinnyp; I hope you've had a positive week and especially that your new cycle of chemo got off to a good start. You're amazing . . . such an inspiration. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I'm grateful for your friendship. Sending you healing thoughts and prayers and wishing you a restful weekend. :x:
Wishing everyone a happy, and especially healthy weekend!

Good morning @Artizanne

Just catching up on your progress! Looks like things are moving pretty quickly (although I know you may not feel like it’s quite quickly enough!) let’s hope there’s a date for your surgery very soon!

Keep us posted!

All my best wishes,

K💚💙💜💛❤️

Artizanne

Delighted to say I've now had a revised date for surgery. The booking office called this morning to inform me that I'm to come in on Wednesday 11th for surgery on Thursday 12th. I'm told I may expect written confirmation in the mail tomorrow. Starting to feel there might be some light at the end of this tunnel now!

Hi @chris61. Thank you . . . it finally feels as if things are coming together now. I've just been catching up status updates of friends on here who had their surgery yesterday. I'm delighted to read that they've both come through it OK and are making good progress. I'll say it again . . . this forum is a wonderful, wonderful place . . . an absolute Godsend. Love and healing prayers go out to all of you. Anne :x::x:

Hello @KatieR. Hi Cath . . . I'm so delighted to read that John's surgery went well and that the surgeon was pleased with his handiwork. I'm sure John will spend much of the next few days sleeping . . . but hey, that's good. At least he's comfortable while he's asleep . . . and of course, sleep is healing. Make sure you take good care of yourself and get enough rest too. You're going to be run off your feet once John's "up and running" again! Love to you both. Anne :x:

Thanks @Artizanne He was astonishingly chipper this afternoon Moving around his bed Quite jolly Though that might have been the morphine pump He was a bit tired tonight but had enjoyed both his lunch and dinner He had everyone laughing when his stoma kept blowing off massive raspberries We can’t wait to see what our little dog does when his new tummy button lets one rip
Anyway I’m tired now and strangely happy that we have staggered over the first hurdle
Nite nite all

All psyched-up for admission tomorrow and surgery Thursday. I've got to phone the ward tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. to check there's a bed available. At the moment I'm keeping my fingers and toes are crossed that it won't have to be postponed. I hope I'll be able to pick up wifi (or at least get a 4G signal) while I'm in hospital, so that I can post an update. Massive thanks to you all for you tremendous support over these past weeks. Take good care of yourselves and, in the words of Arnold Schwarzeneger, aka The Terminator . . . "I'll be back!" (hopefully, very soon!). Anne :x::x:
