Tumour size

Hi. I have just been diagnosed via colonoscopy and was wondering when people measure tumour size how is that measured? Is it the diameter or the length of contact with the bowel wall or circumference? Found myself confused by just a measurement, measuring what?

Dear @fireblade401 ,

When a tumour is found at colonoscopy the endoscopist tries to assess the general size. This will include the length and width. It is very difficult to accurately assess tumours and polyps this way bit when you have your staging scans (CT and MRI) these will be able to take much more accurate measurements of the whole tumour.

Kind regards,
