Really bad news
Hey everyone just catching up with my Dads situation very sad news . So the scan on the lungs confirmed spread to the lung. But that's not even the worst of it . His wound isn't getting better and he had a small surgery on it Cause they were trying to drain it" but with no luck. The nurse told me the colorectal surgeon is very suspicious of the wound and lumpyness and how its all inbeded together in the skin and they think the cancer is back in the rectum. The nurse said it isn't getting any better they've tried different types of antibiotics with no improvement...So they've taken 4 swabs from it . My dad has a heart of a Lion. ...Honestly its absolutely heart breaking he's the most selfless person I've ever known and to see him like a war wounded man breaks my heart . The nurse said he had a cigarette the other day for the first time in 5months and he broke down in tears . He doesn't even know the extent of it all .The nurse said all he wants is to come home and then a decision has to be made about continuing antibiotics that aren't working cause the wound continues to break down. If any of you ever watched heartbeat my dad would remind you of Dave in it. He's soo soft hearted and kind . The surgeon did say risks of getting the total pelvic exenteration and thats why he wasn't keen on doing it . Because of my dads cancer was soo aggressive even with treatment and it has such a poor pathology biology..... And even if the swabs came back not cancer they would still suspect the cancer is back in the rectum. I don't know what think or do. I said to the stoma nurse what about Dublin or any specialist and she said honestly Gary the wound is that bad she doesn't think anyone would go back into it .
