Folfiri

My husband (Stage 4 bowel cancer diagnosed April 21) has just had a three monthly scan and been told that the cancer is back in peritoneum and lymph nodes.
Communication with oncologist was very limited so waiting for more news from the nurses on Monday.
Understand he will have 4 cycles of Folfiri, can’t take anymore oxiplatin as 8 cycles last year left him with some neuropathy.
He’s tired, uncomfortable and of course anxious.

Just wondered if we will be able to travel whilst on Folfiri or perhaps even request a two week break as have a big birthday celebration holiday planned in September.
All feedback appreciated, positive thoughts too!

Good morning @Tweed and a very warm welcome to the forum. I'm sure you'll find us a friendly amd supportive community with lots of information and experience to share.

I'm sorry to hear a lot your husbands diagnosis and cancer journey to date. I'm on continuous Folfiri with the targeted drug Cetuximab added in. I've had something like 133 cycles since 2016. Like your husband, I also had mets in peritoneum and a solitary met in my liver. I had surgery early 2017 to address both and I'd think this would be a possibility for your husband too. Has it been mentioned before? The specialised surgery is Cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC and is only done at a few hospitals in the U.K. Basingstoke and The Christie are centres of excellence for this.

Ive always been able to have very short breaks for holidays and special occasions so I wouldn't think that would be an issue at all. I wish your husband all the best with this treatment regimen and look forward to hearing about his progress as he goes along.

Sending you both lots of love and very best wishes,

Thank you Karen for your reply and warm wishes.
The oncologist is talking about 4 cycles of Folfiri, I hadn’t considered it could be for longer.
Surgery hasn’t been discussed as an option.
He is under Royal Marsden so let’s see what they suggest at the next meeting/phone call.
Reassuring to know holidays are still on the agenda.
Kind regards
Anne
